How To Install CompizConfig Settings Manager And Enable The Desktop Cube, Wobbly Windows And Change The Window Effects On Ubuntu 13.04

Here is a guide to install the CompizConfig Setting Manager and some extra plugins on Ubuntu 13.04. This guide also show you how to enable the cube, wobbly windows and change the window effects in a few steps.

Please note that when enabling the cube and wobbly windows compiz will freeze for a while, this is normal so don’t panic!! If you end up without any window borders just restart your system and all will be normal again and the effects will still work.


CCSM, short for CompizConfig Settings Manager, is a configuration tool for Compiz Fusion. It is used to configure the many plugins included in Compiz and Compiz Fusion, as well as the use of various profiles and intergrating better with existing desktop settings. How to install CCSM.

To install the CompizConfig Settings Manager (CCSM) and the extra plugins open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following line:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-plugins-extra -y

When installed you can close the terminal window and to start ccsm open click on the Dash Home button and search for: ccsm

At first start up you will get a warning message that CCSM is an advanced tool and that you should use it with caution. You can disable this warning by clicking on the check box followed by clicking on the OK button.


How to enable the desktop cube.

To enable the cube follow these steps:

Select General Options
Click on the Desktop Size tab
Change Horizontal Virtual Size from 1 to 4
Click on the Back button
Enable the Desktop Cube
Disable Desktop Wall
Enable Rotate Cube
Enable Cube Reflection and Deformation


How to enable Wobbly Windows.

To enable Wobbly Windows follow these steps:

Scroll down to the Effects section
Enable Wobbly Windows
Disable Snapping Windows


How to change the Window Animations.

To change the window animations follow these steps:

Scroll down to the Effects section
Select Animations
Double clcik on the animation name under Open Effect
Click on the button with the effect name
Select an effect you like from the list
Click on the Close button

Repeat these steps for all the other animations you want to change.
