mpv a free, open source, and cross-platform media player and mpv is a free (as in freedom) media player for the command line. It supports a wide variety of media file formats, audio and video codecs, and subtitle types.
mpv is a video player and a fork of mplayer2 and MPlayer. It shares some features with the former projects while introducing many more. While mpv has no official GUI, it has a small controller that is triggered by mouse movement.
mpv has an OpenGL based video output that is capable of many features loved by videophiles, such as video scaling with popular high quality algorithms, color management, frame timing, interpolation, and more.

To install mpv player open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the commands below into the terminal window.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/mpv-tests
sudo apt update && sudo apt install mpv
You can also install the mpv media player without adding a PPA, open a terminal window and copy+paste the command below in the terminal window.
sudo apt install mpv
When the installation of mpv player is finished you can close the terminal window. To start mpv player click on your Show Applications icon and type: mpv and click on the icon.
