Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. To install Skype you first need to download the package, open a terminal window (press Alt+F2 and type: gnome-terminal) and copy+paste the following line:
For 32-bit version:
wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-32
For 64-bit version:
wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-64
Then you need you install some extra libraries:
sudo apt-get install libqt4-dbus libqt4-network libqt4-xml libasound2
Now you can install Skype using the downloaded package. To install Skype type the following line in a terminal window:
sudo dpkg -i getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-32
or
sudo dpkg -i getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-64
To start Skype press Alt+F2 and type: skype
