How To Download, Extract And Start Vice Emulator On Ubuntu 13.04

For people who still like to play the good old Commodore 64 games here is guide to download, extract and start the Vice emulator on Ubuntu 13.04.

You can download the Windows version of Vice and run it using Wine. To use Vice you need to have Wine installed on your system, to install Wine on Ubuntu 13.04 read this article.


VICE is a program that runs on a Unix, MS-DOS, Win32, OS/2, Acorn RISC OS, BeOS, QNX 4.x, QNX 6.x, Amiga, GP2X, Dingoo, Syllable, SkyOS or Mac OS X machine and executes programs intended for the old 8-bit computers. The current version emulates the C64, the C64DTV, the C128, the VIC20, almost all PET models, the PLUS4 and the CBM-II (aka C610).

When downloaded extract the content of the download file to any location you want. When extracted go to the location where you saved Vice and to start Vice click with your right mouse button on the x64.exe file and open it with the Wine Windows Program Loader.
