How To Install Remmina Remote Desktop Client On Ubuntu 11.10

Remmina is a remote desktop client written in GTK+, aiming to be useful for system administrators and travellers, who need to work with lots of remote computers in front of either large monitors or tiny netbooks. Remmina supports multiple network protocols in an integrated and consistant user interface. Currently RDP, VNC, NX, XDMCP and SSH are supported. You can install Remmina from the Ubuntu Software Center.

To install Remmina open the Ubuntu Software Center press Alt+F2 and type: software center. Type remmina in the search field and click on the More Info button to read a short description or click on the Install button to install Remmina. When the installation is finished close the software center and to start Remmina press the SuperKey and type: remmina.

To connect to another machine follow these steps:

Click on the Create a new remote desktop file button (the + button)
Enter a name
Select a group (optional)
Select Protocol (RDP, SFTP, SSH or VNC)
Enter the server adress (fill in the IP adress of the machine you want to connect to)
Enter User name
Enter Password
Fill in the domain (optional)

It’s also possible to change the resolution, you can use the client resolution and if you don’t like that resolution you can select Custom and change to a resolution you like. Same goes for the Color depth… if you don’t like it click on the button and select the one you prefer.
