WARNING: The nightly builds are UNSTABLE and may not work at all. There is absolutely NO SUPPORT for it from the VideoLAN Team. This version is for those who like to HELP TEST VLC. I’ve been using this version for several weeks without any problems. You can install the nighty builds by adding the master dailyPPA for the VLC nightly builds. But remember… use on your own risk!!
To add the PPA and install the VLC nightly build open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/master-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc
When VLC is installed you can close the terminal window and to start VLC press the SuperKey and type: vlc
The VLC nightly builds are experimental versions of VLC that are daily generated from the VLC code that is currently in development. Several issues that existed in previous versions of VLC might be fixed here, but since this version of VLC is not yet finished, you should expect other problems and issues.
