Here is a guide to install extra themes for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS “Lucid Lynx” The following themes will be installed: Bisigi project themes, The Artwork Teams “community-themes” package and Extra Ubuntu Community Themes From The Ubuntu Artwork Wiki.
The project was born from the desire to improve the visual appearance of ubuntu. Based on GNOME desktop environment, this distribution allows the democratization of Linux.
To install the Bisigi project themes follow these steps. First you need to add the Bisigi PPA (for Ubuntu Karmic and Lucid), to do this open a Terminal window (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and copy+paste the following line:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bisigi/ppa && sudo apt-get update
To install the Bisigi themes copy+paste the following line:
sudo apt-get install bisigi-themes
Now all the Bisigi project themes are installed on your system….
The Artwork Teams “community-themes” package
The Artwork Team aims to enrich Ubuntu by designing high quality, original and beautiful themes to be available in the repo as an *alternative* to the default look.
To install these themes open a Terminal window (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and copy+paste the following line:
sudo apt-get install community-themes
That all you have to do to install the community-themes package
Extra Ubuntu Community Themes From The Ubuntu Artwork Wiki
Some community themes from the Ubuntu Artwork Wiki made it into the “community-themes” package from Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (which you can install using: sudo apt-get install community-themes) however some amazing themes didn’t. Read full story HERE
First you need to install bzr to do this open a Terminal window (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal and copy+paste the following line:
sudo apt-get install bzr
To install the extra themes copy+paste the following lines:
bzr branch lp:~nilarimogard/+junk/extra-community-themes
cd extra-community-themes/ && chmod +x install
sudo ./install
To change your theme go to System -> Preferences -> Appearance and select the Theme tab to see the list of themes.
