Here is a guide to install Firefox 3.6.2 Beta (Namoroka) on Ubuntu 9.10 “Karmic Koala”
Note: If you already have a version of Firefox 3.5 installed from a repo then upgrade using the following command:
sudo apt-get upgrade
First add the Mozilla daily ppa to your Repo’s, to do so open a Terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and copy+paste the following line:
ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
Then type:
sudo apt-get update
To install Firefox 3.6 type:
sudo apt-get install firefox-3.6
When installed you can find Firefox 3.6 under Applications -> Internet -> Namoroka Web Browser
If you want to install Firefox 3.6 Beta in Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jackalope” and 8.10 “Intrepid Ibex” follow these steps.
First you need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list file, open a Terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and copy+paste the following line:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Then add the one of the following lines:
For Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jackalope”
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
For Ubuntu 8.10 “Intrepid Ibex”
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
Save and exit the file
To add the PPA GPG key open a Terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and copy+paste the following line:
sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys 247510BE
To update the source list copy+paste the following line:
sudo apt-get update
To install Firefox 3.6 copy+paste the following line:
sudo apt-get install firefox-3.6
