Script That Installs Ubuntu Tweak, Y PPA Manager, Grub Customizer And More On Ubuntu 11.10

This script installs Ubuntu Tweak, ClassicMenu Indicator, the simple LightDM manager, Y PPA Manager, grub customizer, startup manager, Gmount-iso, Gnome-Pie and the samba system config package to enable windows network detection.


Download the useful-tools-script-11.10-tar.gz file and extract the contents into your downloads folder. Open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and to make the script executable copy+paste the following line in the terminal window:

chmod +x Downloads/useful-tools-script-11.10

To run the script copy+paste the following line in your terminal window:

./Downloads/useful-tools-script-11.10

Step 1
Adds the tualatrix PPA and installs Ubuntu Tweak (stable version).

Step 2
Adds the Florian Diesch testing PPA for the ClassicMenu indicator and installs the ClassicMenu indicator.

ClassicMenu Indicator is a notification area applet (application indicator) for the top panel of Ubuntu’s Unity desktop environment. It provides a simple way to get a classic GNOME-style application menu for those who prefer this over the Unity dash menu. Step 3
Adds the Claudio Novais PPA for the simple LightDM manager and installs the simple LightDM manager.

Launchpad repository of the Simple LightDM Manager. This application will help you customizing your new Ubuntu’s login manager (LightDM). Currently this tool only supports changing the background and logo.

Step 4
Adds the webupd8team PPA for the Y PPA Manager and installs Y PPA Manager.

Adds the Daniel Richter PPA for grub customizer and installs grub customizer.

Installs the StartUp-Manager package.

Step 7
Installs Gmount-iso, Gnome ISO Mounter (Gmount-ISO) is a tool that ease for Desktop users the CD Image files (ISO) mounting/unmounting .

Step 8
Adds the Simon Schneegans PPA for Gnome-Pie.

Gnome-Pie is a circular application launcher for Linux. It is made of several pies, each consisting of multiple slices. The user presses a key stroke which opens the desired pie. By activating one of its slices, applications may be launched, key presses may be simulated or files can be opened. More about Gnome-Pie

Step 9
Install the system config samba package. The system-config-samba is a graphical user interface for creating, modifying, and deleting samba shares, users and windows network detection.

To start samba press the SuperKey and type: samba. To add your system to the workgroup click on Preferences and select Server Settings. The default windows network is named workgroup. If you created your own network with a different name just replace workgroup with the name of your own network.
