XBMC Media Center

Here is a manual to download and install the XBMC player/entertainment center.

XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. XBMC is available for Linux, OSX, Windows, and the original Xbox. Currently XBMC can be used to play almost all popular audio and video formats around. To install XBMC on Ubuntu 9.10 “Karmic Koala” open a Terminal window (Applications-> Accessories->Terminal) and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc
sudo apt-get update

How to install on Ubuntu 9.10 “Karmic Koala”

To install XBMC on Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jackalope” open a Terminal window (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) and copy+paste the following line:

sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys 9317790E

Then add PPA repo For Ubuntu Jaunty, goto System->Administration->Software Sources and select the Third party Software tab. Click  ADD. And add the following repo for Jaunty:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/jaunty-ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/jaunty-ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

To install XBMC on Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jackalope” open a Terminal window (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) and copy+paste the following line:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc
sudo apt-get update

When XBMC is installed you can find it under Applications->Sound & Video
