How To Install Wine 1.6 On Ubuntu 13.10

Here is a guide to install Wine 1.6 on Ubuntu 13.10. You can install Wine using the Wine Team PPA.

Wine (originally an acronym for “Wine Is Not an Emulator”) is a compatibility layer capable of running Windows applications on several POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as Linux, Mac OSX, & BSD. Instead of simulating internal Windows logic like a virtual machine or emulator, Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly, eliminating the performance and memory penalties of other methods and allowing you to cleanly integrate Windows applications into your desktop. Visit the Wine homepage.

To add the PPA and to install Wine open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa -y

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wine1.6 -y

When Wine is installed you can close the terminal window.
