In my older post i showed how to install XBMC using the ppa for Ubuntu 10.10. But now a new unstable ppa has been released to install XBMC this means that you don’t have to use my script or have to change the distribution to install XBMC.
To install XBMC open a terminal window (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy+paste the following lines:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/unstable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc
To start XBMC press Alt+F2 and type: xbmc
XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. XBMC is available for Linux, OSX, and Windows.

Thank you very much from Mallorca
no problem, glad i could help …. greetings from the Netherlands
“a new unstable ppa”? Its supposed to be “stable” right?
Repository for pre-release versions of XBMC. These builds are UNSTABLE, use at your own risk.

OK thanks for the info. I’ll wait for a stable version.
i added the ppa and installed xbmc and i have no problems running xbmc
OK but what does it mean that it is “unstable” then? Will they soon release a stable ppa to download from then this one will be obsolete and not updated?
Sometimes it means that the files aren’t regullary updated or that they still need to upload some extra files or that it still is a testing version. As soon as all the files are uploaded there will be a stable ppa released.
