Here is a quick guide to download and install the Ubuntu-Orange Plymouth theme. The installation instructions can also be found in the Ubuntu 10.4-Readme file. This theme was created by SWoRD Jr
Download the Plymouth theme HERE
To Install on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS “Lucid Lynx” do the following:
First extract the contents of 128813-Ubuntu-Orange-Plymouth1.1.tar.gz to your Desktop then also extract the contents of Ubuntu-10.4-SWoRD-Edition1.1.tar.gz to your Desktop. Then open a Terminal window (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and copy+paste the following lines:
cd ~/Desktop
sudo cp -R Ubuntu-10.4-SWoRD-Edition1.1/ /lib/plymouth/themes/
sudo update-alternatives –install /lib/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth default.plymouth /lib/plymouth/themes/Ubuntu-10.4-SWoRD-Edition1.1/Ubuntu-10.4-SWoRD-Edition1.1.plymouth 100
sudo update-alternatives –config default.plymouth
A menu will apear. Type the number that corresponds to Ubuntu-10.4-SWoRD-Edition1.1 in the list and press Return. In your Terminal window Copy+paste the following line:
sudo update-initramfs -u
To see a preview of the theme copy+paste the following lines in your Terminal window:
sudo plymouthd
sudo plymouth –show-splash
To quit the preview copy+paste the following line:
sudo plymouth quit
Note: The preview window doesn’t show the plymouth theme full size so it’s a bit out of proportions.
